Why is the response time of the safety curtain important? If not properly calculated, when your hand is inserted, the equipment has not yet stopped.

Today, Wuxi Rihuan Sensor Technology Co., Ltd. will introduce to us why the response time of the safety light curtain is so important. If not calculated properly, your hand will be inserted into the device before it stops.

The response time of the safety curtain refers to the time interval during which the beam is blocked and the output signal is disconnected. It directly determines the distance of safety protection - the longer the response time, the greater the safety distance, and the farther the curtain is from the dangerous point.

According to the formula S = K × T + C:

K is set at 1600 to 2000 mm/s (the speed when a person approaches)

T = Screen response time + Equipment stop time

C represents the additional distance.

If the response time of the curtain is 10 ms longer, the safety distance should be at least increased by 16 mm. Calculation errors can result in the curtain being installed too close: when the hand is inserted, the equipment still has time to stop.

The correct approach:

Select a safety curtain with a response time of no more than 15ms;

Actual equipment shutdown time (do not use theoretical value);

Regularly conduct checks to prevent the braking system from deteriorating and causing the machine to slow down when it stops.

Response time is not a marketing parameter; it is a crucial metric for protecting lives. If it's not calculated correctly, the safety curtain is equivalent to not having it at all.

Rihuan Sensing offers Type 4 safety photoelectric curtains that are compliant with safety certifications. They have a short response time and support guidance for calculating safe distances. Welcome to follow Dayring Sensing and ensure that protection is truly effective.
