Near equipment such as injection molding machines, ovens, and hot presses, the ambient temperature often exceeds 70℃. The internal components of a common inductive proximity switch include a circuit board, a coil, and a potting compound. When exposed to this temperature for a long time, three typical problems will occur: 

Sensitivity drift: The detection distance is unstable, fluctuating between far and near, which affects the positioning accuracy. 

Component accelerated aging: The lifespan of internal electronic components significantly shortens and the failure rate increases. 

Solution 1: Select a high-temperature proximity switch

Sealing adhesive softening: The sealing structure is damaged, allowing water vapor and dust to enter, resulting in the failure of the switch. 

The high-temperature type products are equipped with temperature-resistant electronic components and specially formulated encapsulation materials. Their operating temperature can reach up to 110℃ or even 150℃, enabling stable operation in high-temperature environments and maintaining consistent detection distance. 

Solution 2: Isolate the heat source physically

If it is temporarily impossible to replace the high-temperature switch on site, the following auxiliary measures can be taken: 

Install insulation gaskets; 

Use the extension rod to move the sensor away from the high-temperature area; 

Install air-cooling or water-cooling jackets for auxiliary heat dissipation. 

Summary

70℃ is the upper limit for the reliable operation of ordinary proximity switches. If the temperature exceeds this level, specialized high-temperature products must be selected; otherwise, the stability of the detection and the safety of the equipment cannot be guaranteed.
