Magnetic switches need to be fixed on the outer wall of the cylinder to be able to sense the magnetic field of the magnetic ring on the piston, thereby outputting position signals. However, the structure of the cylinder is diverse - there are pull rod type, round cylinder type, and standard profile cylinder type - and different cylinders require different fixing methods. Currently, the most commonly used on-site methods are three: band type, clamp type, and guide rail type, corresponding to different cylinder types.

1. Band type: General solution for common round cylinders and small and medium-sized cylinders

The band type (also known as steel band fixation) is to use a metal steel band to wrap the cylinder cylinder, locking the magnetic switch on the cylinder body. The inner side of the steel band is usually coated with an anti-slip rubber layer to increase friction and prevent sliding.

Installation method: Place the magnetic switch on the yoke frame of the steel band, and turn the installation screw to make the steel band tighten, and the switch will be fixed on the outer wall of the cylinder cylinder.

Applicable cylinders: Small and medium-sized cylinders without pull rods, such as common round cylinders and mini cylinders. These cylinders have smooth cylinder cylinder surfaces and no reserved installation slots, and the band type is the most direct fixing method.

Notes:

The tightening force of the steel band should not be too strong, otherwise it will elongate the steel band and fail to fix properly, or even break the steel band.

When installing the steel band, it should not be tilted. Otherwise, when the piston is subjected to impact and returns, the switch will become loose.

The strap-type is convenient, but when multiple switches are tied to the same cylinder body, the stacking of the strap layers will cause the outer diameter to increase, and the switches are prone to interfere with each other.

II. Clamp-type: A dedicated solution for pull rod air cylinders

The clamp-type (also known as fixed on the pull rod) utilizes the structure of the pull rod air cylinder - the four corners of the cylinder have pull rod bolts passing through - to fix the installation piece of the magnetic switch through the locking screw on the pull rod, and then fix the switch on the installation piece.

Installation method: The switch housing has a clip or flange. The installation piece is fixed on the pull rod with a locking screw, and then the magnetic switch is locked on the installation piece.

Applicable air cylinders: Pull rod type air cylinders. The four pull rods of the pull rod air cylinder are themselves natural installation benchmarks, and the clamp-type uses this structure to achieve fixation, without the need for additional straps or guides.

Notes:

The clamping force of the clamp should be moderate. If it is too tight, it may damage the threaded part of the pull rod or cause the pull rod to deform.

The installation position can be adjusted along the direction of the pull rod. When adjusting, the actual position of the piston magnetic ring should be used as the reference for alignment.

III. Track-type: The preferred choice for standard cylinders and multi-switch installations

The track-type (also known as T-slot installation) utilizes the installation guide rail slots reserved on the cylinder barrel. There is a T-shaped slot on the side of the cylinder housing, and the clips on the switch housing are connected to the sliding nut inside the slot via installation screws. After tightening the screws, the switch is firmly fixed on the guide rail.

Installation method: Place the installation screw into the slot at the track opening of the cylinder body, slide it to approximately the position, then align the clips of the switch with the screw, and tighten the screw to fix.

Applicable cylinders: Standard cylinders with guide rail slots, such as common ISO standard profiles cylinders and square cylinders. Many cylinder models can directly select the suffix options of "track-type installation" or "steel belt-type installation" when purchasing.

Notes:

The rail-mounted method is the main push method for multiple switch installations - the same rail slot can accommodate multiple switches, each of which is independently adjustable and does not affect each other, resulting in a neat appearance.

The tightening torque should be carried out according to the recommended values provided by the cylinder manufacturer. Exceeding these values may damage the rail slot or the switch housing.

The position adjustment of the switch on the rail is more convenient than the strap type, making it suitable for scenarios where detection points need to be set in the middle of the stroke.

IV. Comparison of Three Methods

Fixed method Applicable cylinders Installation characteristics Primary considerations

Strap type Small and medium-sized round cylinders without pull rods Steel band wraps around the cylinder barrel, with strong versatility The tightening force should not be too large, and the steel band should not be tilted

Clamping type Pull-rod type cylinders Uses the pull rod as the installation reference Clamping force is moderate, and alignment is along the pull rod

Rail-mounted type Standard profiles with T-shaped slots Can be inserted into the rail slot and can be adjusted slidably Preferred for multiple switch installations, torque is based on the recommended values

Choose the fixed method first, then look at the cylinder - whether there is a rail slot on the cylinder, whether it is a pull-rod type, and what the cylinder diameter is, which determines which method can be used. Choosing the correct fixed method ensures that the magnetic switch can stably "guard" at the position where the magnetic ring passes, reliably outputting the piston position signal.
