Proximity sensors are a general term for sensors that aim to detect objects without contact, replacing contact detection methods such as limit switches. They can convert the movement and presence information of the detected object into electrical signals.
Among the detection methods that switch to electrical signals, there are those that utilize the eddy current generated in the metal body of the detection object caused by electromagnetic induction and those that change the capacity of the electrical signal due to the approach of the measured object.

Inductive type:
The inductor generates a high-frequency magnetic field through the internal inductance. When the target approaches the magnetic field, induced eddy currents will be generated on the target surface.
As the target approaches, the induced eddy current will intensify, causing the load on the oscillation circuit to increase and leading to a weakening or even cessation of the oscillation.
The sensor can determine whether the target exists by detecting the amplitude.
Application: It is often used to detect metal material targets, such as iron, copper, aluminum and other metals.

Capacitive type
The sensing surface of the sensor serves as one plate, and the detection target acts as the other plate. As the target gradually approaches, the medium or the distance between the plates will change, thereby causing a change in capacitance. By detecting the capacitance, the existence of the target can be determined.
Application: It can detect any material, such as metal, wood, liquid, plastic, etc.
